The child life profession is currently lacking diversity in the type of clinical learning opportunities that, while not required for most internships, have become essential experiences for internship consideration. Virtual practicums overcome many of the geographic challenges some students face when exploring the need to relocate for practicum experiences, while also providing unique skill sets that will impact their current and future child life practices. Virtual practicums also provide essential flexibility for many candidates who require continued employment or for whom other barriers to access exist in moving forward towards certification eligibility. 'This virtual practicum allows students to explore areas of interest for child life practice in a way most traditional practicums cannot, while also providing consistent experiences for contemporary students rather than relying on current patient populations and needs.

Most internship sites require or highly recommend a minimum of 120 hours.
You should plan for approximately 12 hours per week for the 10 week experience, including the live and recorded experiences, plus hands on therapeutic play opportunities.
There will be weekly "live" sessions held via Zoom, and these will be 90 minutes in length. We will rotate the times for these lives for each practicum offering. Our goal is to meet the needs of our student participants across the country, and you will have the opportunity to request the time that works best for your schedule and time zone. When our cohort is announced, the day and time for our "live" session will be shared with those receiving offers.
There is currently no requirement to complete a practicum for ACLP certification or internship eligibility. However, many students have found that internships require or highly recommend a practicum experience. This practicum was designed to meet both the ACLP Recommended Practicum Standards and the ACLP Pre-Internship Module Standards.
As we are not an academic institution, we are unable to award academic credit for this practicum. With 120+ hours completed, this experience absolutely meets ACLP recommended practicum standards and ACLP pre-internship module standards.
A Certified Child Life Specialist with significant experience in the field will be supervising the practicum. Our team will rotate who is providing instruction, but regardless of who your supervisor is, you'll be in terrific hands!
The cost for the practicum is $1,200, plus $40 student liability through HPSO. The fee is payable upon acceptance of a child life community practicum offer from Child Life Connection.
For students applying to traditional practicums as affiliated, the cost of relocation and tuition far exceeds the cost of a virtual practicum....
We will be offering a needs-based scholarship during Spring and Fall semesters. Applications will be emailed to those indicating need in their practicum application.
